Support Beauty Banks (without breaking the bank)
Jolly clever idea, to help raise money for a jolly brilliant cause. Beauty Banks was set up to get products like shower gels, shampoos and conditioners and sanitary protection into the hands of those living in 'hygiene poverty'. (And it's a wider problem than you can possibly imagine, as you'll discover via the Beauty Banks website, here.)
They've just come up with a very clever way to support their work which frankly, everyone can do. We've often thought that charities should make it easier to support them in small, bite-sized chunks – the digital equivalent of having that quid in your pocket that goes in a charity tin that someone's rattling at you, or is sitting on a shop counter.
You literally text the word BEAUTY to 70940 and that triggers a donation of a pound to Beauty Banks. Or if you're feeling more generous, you can text BEAUTY5 and they'll get a fiver, or BEAUTY10 and a tenner goes to buy products to alleviate hygiene poverty – all of it, literally every penny (because Beauty Banks's organisational and operational costs are under-written by the lovely folk at Estée Lauder Companies). Once you've texted, you get an acknowledgment and an option easily to add Gift Aid, ramping up the value of the donation.
Most of us can give a quid. At least. So to borrow from a famous ad. campaign: Just. Do. It. And ideally, shout about it on social media with the hashtag #passiton
