Fab Find of the Week: Olverum's new skincare
We are long-term fans of Olverum, here. (And we know many of you are, too.) This is a multi-Beauty Bible Award-winning brand with a fascinating histor: their original, iconic product, a wellbeing-boosting bath oil, was created in 1931 in Germany’s Mosel Valley, featuring mood-lifting, energising essential oils – including Siberian fir, juniper and rosemary; – it took its name from the Latin oleum verum, which translates as ‘true oil’.
But since then, the team at Olverum has launched lots of new products that draw on the spirit of the brand, but take it in new directions – always with fabulous smells, because that’s what so many of us love it for.
So – ta-dah! – we’re happy to announce that three new skincare products have just launched, to sit alongside their existing Pure Radiance Facial Oil, which we’ve previously featured here.)
Olverum Alpine Revive Cleansing Balm kickstarts your routine – and honestly, this is a fab cleanser.Don’t be put off by the black colour (or even the fact it turns your face a bit grey!); when this swooshes away with a hot cloth, skin is beautifully radiant, clean (but not squeaky). It includes something called ‘Alpine Heilmoor Extract’ (the black stuff, we reckon), alongside moisturising rice brand wax and squalane, while there’s a lightly exfoliating extract from rice powder – not scratchy, but brightening. The scent is subtler than their body products, for obvious reasons – but lovely and aromatic, with thyme, lavender, rosemary, clary sage and other aromatics.
Olverum Procellular Defence Day Cream is your day cream – and we love this, too: it’s rich and comfy-making, powered by an ‘advanced Hyper-Antioxidant Complex’, harnessing the power of astaxanthin – ‘an algae-derived antioxidant 6000 times more powerful than Ascorbic Acid (the basic form of Vitamin C,’ we’re told, alongside reishi mushroom and Centella Asiatica, to strengthen the skin barrier. Fragrance here is gentle aromatherapeutic notes of bergamot, cardamom and lavender. NOTE: this is NOT an SPF, and you’ll need to layer one of those separately.
Last but not least, we have Olverum Procellular Defence Night Cream, this time offering a bio-retinoid derived from chlorella, to boost collagen production and enhance elasticity, alongside niacinamide and a pretty magical ingredient called Rose of Jericho extract – a.k.a. ‘resurrection plant’, for its renowned ability to reduce water loss and lock in moisture. This time, it’s a sleep-inducing blend of Roman chamomile, lavender and ylang ylang that you’ll enjoy. (To be honest, on our dry skins, am extra drop of the facial oil layered underneath isn’t going amiss, at this end of winter.)
Kits are also available (we like the Radiance Ritual, here).
