Typology Tinted Serum
There’s been a big buzz around this ‘tinted serum’, and to be honest, the only thing putting us off trying it was being a bit dithery over which of the six shades would work best.
Well, at a recent showcase organised by Typology’s British PR, Aisle 8, we got to try the serums in person, to ensure a shade match (and then promptly ordered online) – well, Jo did, in shade Type 2 – Light, a paler shade which works with the slightly warm undertone to her skin.
This isn’t a tinted moisturiser; it really DOES have a serum texture, leaving skin looking and feeling gorgeously dewy. In Jo’s case, it’s done away with the need for foundation on days when she doesn’t have appointments, but wants to feel confident in her skin. It’s very hydrating; in the blend, there’s vitamin C (for radiance), squalane and aloe vera, for hydration. The tint evens out skintone, but somehow, the formula seems to melt into skin so that it looks really seamless.
There are half a dozen shades of this 99% natural formula, which is silicone-free. Just six shades? Sounds like it might prove challenging for a lot of women. BUT… As Typology explain, ‘Hesitating between two shades? Choose two serums to apply together. The second one is yours for half the price.’ It’s an innovative approach, and ideal for a small start-up brand, which probably can’t afford 48 different foundation shades. (And it’s not like the available shades don’t cover the whole spectrum, from delicate pale to Dark Brown.)
There’s also a very wise section here on how to find the right shade for your complexion.
Typology is a French brand (which operates in the UK, shipping-wise), created by Ning Li, who gathered together ‘a team of health and skincare experts’, with the aim of challenging the industry. They sell straight to consumer, rather than via shops (which alas means in this case: you can’t, actually, go in anywhere and try this on your own skin to ensure a shade match).
Nevertheless, we’ll be taking an online punt and trying more from the range. Because yes, we get sent truckloads of product to try. But sometimes, it’s nice to check things out like a ‘normal’ beauty shopper.
