Beauty Bible Loves... International Day of Natural Cosmetics (with NATRUE)

We’ve long championed natural cosmetics, even before we wrote our book The Green Beauty Bible way, way back in 2008.

So we’d like to invite you to celebrate International Day of Natural Cosmetics, which is today – 23rd November 2023 – and is spearheaded by the certifying body NATRUE, to promote the benefits for people and planet of truly natural cosmetics, marking it in 30 countries around the world.

We always encourage people to look for independent certification on cosmetics, to back up claims – NATRUE, but also Soil Association, Ecocert, etc. – because not everyone has the time (or expertise) to scrutinise labels the way that we always do (magnifying glasses to the fore!), and one of these labels is the quickest way to know that you can trust a brand’s claims.

You can follow NATRUE’s activities on social today, hashtag #choosetruebeauty or @NATRUE_aisbl. Their logo currently appears on 9,280 certified natural and organic products and raw materials worldwide, and is used by brands including Weleda, Lavera, Dr. Bronner’s Soaps, Trilogy and Aeos, among 270 brands carrying this certification.

What does the symbol mean…?

• Formulations are made with non-GMO, renewable raw materials

• No ingredients from mineral oils or silicones

• Palm oil must be certified sustainable/organic quality

• Microplastic free, to protect oceans and waterways

• Biodegradability of ingredients is taken into account

• Products bearing the NATRUE symbol are not tested on animals
