Guerlain L'Essentiel High Perfection 24H Wear Foundation SPF15
Do you like ‘dewy’, as foundation finishes go? Or do you prefer matte?
Whichever, Guerlain have you covered with a new more velvety-finish addition to sit alongside one of our fave bases from the last couple of years, L’Essentiel Natural Glow Foundation 16H Wear SPF20. We loved that one SO much, in fact, that at the time we chose it as a ‘Fab Find of the Week’. (And it’s still a go-to, for Jo.)
So here are the key differences – ‘cos we admit, it’s a teensy bit confusing at first glance…
With new Guerlain L'Essentiel High Perfection 24H Wear Foundation SPF15, wear has been extended from 16 hours to 24 hours (though of course we’d never advocate leaving your base on your face for THAT long), and certainly, it seems to go the distance better, during the day. (Still flawless at teatime, certainly.)
This version of L’Essentiel is slightly matte, but not flat, gives really good coverage for ‘imperfections’ (in Jo’s case), red veins), and is supercomfy. (Actually, you really can’t feel that it’s there.)
The SPF is just slightly less in this one – an SPF15, rather than SPF20. But then we’d never advocate relying on the SPF in a foundation; it’s just a little bonus, really.
This is just the teensiest smidgen LESS natural than the original – 96% -v- 97%. That’s still amazingly high, for a foundation from a mainstream brand.
But what both foundations have in common is a very impressive shade range, which you get a really good idea of below. (We will no longer feature foundations or concealers on these pages which don’t acknowledge the many different skintones in our melting pot world.)
There are 30 tones here – some with pink, some with yellow undertones – but our experience is that these days, foundations can be quite ‘forgiving’, so if you’re a shade out, you’ll still get a great effect. (Just as well, since we can’t try foundation out in store, at the moment.)
What we can be sure of: L’Essentiel High Perfection is set to become a ‘essentiel’, in our kit, for those days (or evenings) when we long for something a little more velvety.
