Cochine Eau de Parfum collection
Have we ever been more grateful for the power of perfume to salve our wanderlust and take us places that are currently actually impossible to visit? A new collection from Cochine – creators of much-loved home fragrances – brings that into sharp focus, with perfumer-legend Maurice Roucel, no less, capturing the exoticism of the Far East in a collection of eaux de parfums from a brand that is already well-loved for its home fragrances.
These are smells that capture the warmth of summer evenings in the tropics, the humidity, the exotic notes that waft from plants both seen and invisible in the darkness. A fragrance line has been a long-held dream for Cochine founder Kate Crofton Atkins, who knew her perfumes – most of which echo the successful home fragrance line – must capture exotic notes like champa jasmine, Delentii orchid, agar wood, tobacco flower, yang ylang, frangipani and agarwood (oudh).
Maurice Roucel – the nose behind Gucci Envy, Frédéric Malle’s Musc Ravageur and Guerlain L’Instant – has not only done that beautifully in White Jasmine & Gardenia, Frangipani & Neroli, Tuberose & Wild Fig and Vanille & Tabac Noir, but also concocted one new Cochine scent that is available exclusively as an eau de parfum, Tuberose Absolute & Sandalwood. To be honest, we’re not usually a huge fan of tuberose, but this has converted us: there’s a greenness to the flower, here, offset beautifully by the woods – all a little bit mesmerising, actually.
You don’t need a passport to enjoy these, but to close your eyes and imagine yourself somewhere warm, romantic and exciting, through the power of these scents. Till we travel again, we’ll honestly, happily content ourselves with these. A lot less hassle, that’s for sure…
