Beauty Bible Loves... CHANEL Les 4 Ombres Byzance
After the greyest, dullest, rainiest, windiest August in living memory, news of these could not have landed on our desks at a better time. Pure make-up joy.
A little bit of a splurge, for sure – but we have CHANEL ‘quads’ that have lasted for a couple of decades and are good as new. No kidding. Chosen carefully, they are the ‘Little Black Dress’ of make-up palettes – and being pure powder formulations, they will literally keep forever without spoiling.
Of course, these are so exquisitely beautiful that you may simply wish to gaze at them in the sleek black and gold palette – but that’d be a shame, we think. The shades are equally beautiful: shimmering, gleaming, in gorgeous jewel tones, inspired (like some of Chanel’s costume jewellery) by time she spent in Venice. If they’re outside your comfort zone, colour-wise, then a little playtime may be in order – but what fun!
The four palettes for Les 4 Ombres Byzance are as follows (left to right, above):
Parure Imperiale – rich garnet contrasts a sapphire yellow, red quarts, plus an accent Rose Gold shade, with silvery whispers.
Parure Venetienne – Biege Gold, Brown Amber, a gorgeous Coral and (Chanel put it so beautifully) ‘the glistening sea green shimmer of a Moonstone topcoat.’
Parure Baroque – rich ruby red, emerald green, with Antique Gold and a Pearl White shade to use for accenting.
Parure Cristal – the palest palette, showcasing opal and quartz, gleaming taupe, with a pearlescent sky-blue to highlight.
And all in those ‘beaten gold’ palettes.
All of which – despite our longings for a ‘proper summer’ before the season’s out – have us dreaming of velvet and cashmere. (Which will certainly make a change from sou’westers.)
Just exquisite.
