Beauty Bible Loves... Aveda Botanical Repair Overnight Hair Serum limited edition
It’s Earth Month. Aveda have taken this very seriously from the very start, ever since Horst Rechelbacher – a wise soul, dedicated environmentalist and a wonderful inspiration/friend to Beauty Bible – founded this brand. (And, as authors of The Green Beauty Bible, first published in 2008, we take it very seriously, too.)
Now B Corp-certified, Aveda always pull out the stops for Earth Month – and 2024 sees several initiatives on the go.
First of all, throughout April, Aveda is encouraging employees – and, well, anyone, really – to walk 3.7 miles a day, to honour the fact that on average,
People in the developing world walk 3.7 miles a day to access clean water. Through this scheme, they also hope to raise money for Charity: Water (more info here about the charity).
If you buy one of the special limited edition Botanical Repair™ Overnight Hair Serum bottles, meanwhile, via Aveda stores, their website or participating salons and spas – decorated by artist Láolú's Sacred Art of the Ori design – the brand will donate an impressive $20 to Charity: Water. The product itself is a cult hair-repairing serum that – as the name suggests – works its ‘Aveda-scented’ magic overnight, via a 99% natural formula.
Their last idea, meanwhile, is something anyone can get on board with. 22nd April has been declared #NoWashDay, encouraging everyone to skip a hair wash (and thus save an average of 6 gallons of water, each). Aveda are pointing people in the direction of Shampowder/£26 for 56g, as an alternative – but we’re going to be more controversial, here, and encourage you to try skipping hair-cleansing altogether. Personally, living in the country (Sarah) or at the seaside (Jo), far from the nearest grubby metropolis, we can get away with washing our hair once a week – and with a great cut, it still looks great.
So, we say: why not try it during a week when you haven’t got much on, and see how leaving your hair longer between washes works for you. Saves time, money – AND, of course, water.
