Treatments We Love: Benefit Brow Services in the 'New Normal'

Oh, we are happy. Because even though we’d gotten quite good at D-I-Y beauty during lockdown – perfectly SERVICEABLE nails, hair, brows – we have discovered definitively that there’s nothing like the touch of a pro.

Jo was our intrepid 'Indiana Jones', venturing forth into brow-land to have hers attended to – and, she writes, 'It was utterly painless – aside from the usual momentary wince when the waxing strips were removed, of course.'

We have long entrusted our brows to Benefit and nothing's changed on that front even though we may be mid-pandemic. We were among those, of course, who lobbied for beauty services to be restarted back when pubs could open but salons couldn't – so we have always known that hygiene is the No.1 priority for therapists and make-up artists. (You can read about the precautionary procedures that Benefit have in place in the photo below.)

So: Jo's brow pro, Caitlin, was visor-ed up and masked, as per the law. And Jo had to wear a face mask, of course. There was sanitiser. On the ground floor of Benefit's Carnaby Street flagship, everything looked spotless – but to be honest, it always does. 'I really got the feeling, though, that the therapists were happy to bend over backwards to make it all feel safe,' Jo reports.

And oh, how happy she was with the results. 'I've got super-pale, baby blonde brows which are very hard to shape because they're hard to see!', Jo explains. 'Towards the end of lockdown I did get hold of some brow tint, which helped –but I'm such a fan of having my brows professionally shaped that I didn't dare reach for the tweezers, never mind attempt waxing, to sharpen them up.'

Caitlin hadn't done Jo's brows before, so there was a dialogue about shape before she got to work – but post-tint, post-wax the results were honestly transforming. 'Brows really ARE the architecture of the face,' she says. 'Over the past few months, I've felt my face really lacked definition. I guess I'd gone so long having my brows done professionally that I'd forgotten the difference it makes – which is HUGE. Sometimes it's good to be reminded of how much we need services like this – and I really, really hope I never have to press the pause button on my brows ever again!'

Not every location is open yet, but you can check Benefit's booking site to see which stores are open.

So we say: if you possibly can, it's time to get back in the chair. We're pretty sure you'll be waxing lyrical about the results, too.
