Tom Ford Traceless Soft Matte Foundation

We took one look at the liquid, actually slightly runny texture of this and thought: well, that’s not going to do much. (Having got to the stage in life where we need more than a touch of coverage, you see.)

Well, appearances can be deceptive. Because Tom Ford Traceless Soft Matte Foundation is INCREDIBLY concealing. Covers all redness, broken veins, blueness, shadows – and yet is whisper-light. It gives (as the name suggests) a soft, matte finish, which we’ve found is best balanced by a glow-y blusher and a touch of shimmer on the brow-bone, lest the face look too flat.

We like the twist-up lid, with a sensitive pump which dispenses just a dot if that’s all you want/need. We like the fact that it sets super-fast, so there’s no tackiness: apply, and you’re done (certainly no need for powder over the top). We VERY MUCH LIKE the fact that it comes in an incredible span of shades, as you can see below. (Ours? 0.5 Porcelain, at the lighter end of the spectrum.)

We wish we could tell you that it was super-affordable, as the icing on the cake – but it’s right up there in the top bracket of foundation pricing. Still, a dot goes such a long way that we think this will last much longer than other foundations we’ve used lately.
