Thrift + Farfetch

If there's anyone who didn't spend lockdown decluttering their lives, we've yet to meet them. But dropping stuff off at charity stores is still problematic: some just aren't open for donations yet, others require (not-always-convenient-when-you're-working) appointments. Yes, there are boot fair options to sell the stuff – but it's a schlep, and you've still got the problem of the unsold and clearly also unwanted by anyone else items.

So we love the idea of donating our best secondhand clothes to our favourite charity, via fashion website Farfetch.

You simply order a ThriftBag, fill it up, and they collect for free. Thrift+Farfetch claim that by selling online, using live pricing data, they can maximise funds for your cause, raising more than a charity shop would. You can choose to donate all proceeds to charity, or earn credit to spend on Farfetch.com. Clever idea. All UK registered charities are listed, so you can still donate to your favourite cause.

Of course, this is for your good stuff. (Not least, what The New York Times referred to as our 'phantom handbags' – our 'for best' bags which we're just not sure we're ever going to use again!)

But at least this way, we'll feel better about that part of the 'new normal'...
