Saint Fragrance Rose Whispers candle
We adore roses. Everything to do with them. The petals, the colours, and of course the fragrance. In fact, we only plant scented roses in our gardens because, however beautiful, a rose without a scent gives us half the pleasure.
The beauty industry is suffused with rose scented products, for its anti-ageing and aromatherapeutic benefits. Over the 25 years since Beauty Bible launched, our Awards testers have consistently shown how much they love roses too.
And now! We were so very intrigued to learn from Sam and Emma Pringle, a young fragrance designer couple, that the aroma of roses not only helps calm our minds but might also help us focus on the job in hand. So when Sam and Emma launched Saint Fragrance in 2020, they set about formulating their heaven-scented Rose Whispers candle – which is glowing softly on our desks as we write.
Rose Whispers features Bulgarian rose oil, with patchouli and lychee, plus a bouquet of jasmine, peony and violet leaf. For perfume cognoscenti, Sam and Emma term it ‘a modern chypre’.
There’s been stacks of incontrovertible research over the years on the power of smell on our minds. To some extent, we think, a contributory factor is simply the fact of stopping, breathing in slowly and, yes, in this case, smelling the roses (or whatever scent you like and have to hand). Try it and just feel your shoulders sinking down and racing thoughts slowing….
As far as cognition goes, Recent neuroscience literature has several references to the power of inhaling rosy scents to help us take facts on board more readily. The facts were consolidated in the subjects’ memories when rose incense sticks glowed by their bedsides as they slept. (Please don't try this at home, especially with a candle!) It’s also been shown that releasing floral scents in the workplace can reduce stress and boost productivity.
Most of all, though, we just love the pleasure factor of lighting a candle that smells quite quite beautiful.
