Oio Lab The E-Serum: Pro-Repair Anti-Blue Light Facial Serum
Here’s a really interesting product from a Polish company that develops truly natural formulations, mostly oils and serums. (Poland has some really fab emerging beauty brands, by the way.)
So – blue light: the waves that are emitted from the many electronic devices that most of us are attached to for much of the day. Blue light does come from the sun too but dermatologists now believe the main source is screen time.
The side effects of blue light first emerged a few years back in terms of sleep disruption. Research showed that using devices late in the evening is likely to have an adverse effect on our circadian rhythm, influencing the production of melatonin and thus how easily we go to sleep and the quality of our slumber.
Like UVA, blue light causes skin ageing – discolouration, wrinkles and pigmentation – but it can penetrate further into the skin than ultra violet light, right down to the level of collagen and elastin. That means blue light can lead to loss of firmness and bounce, and lead to sags and bags and all that droopy, ‘going south’ look.
So hats off to Oio Lab for launching this all-natural, lovely-feeling serum specifically formulated to counteract the effect of this skin villain.
Truth to tell we did have a really sceptical moment when we examined the labelling on the box. The packaging proclaims ’99.94% ingredients of natural origin’ but when we looked at the ingredient list we noted that one of the top ingredients is pentylene glycol, a humectant widely used in skincare and almost invariably synthetic. So how come the product is virtually totally natural?
The answer came from Oio Lab founder Joanna Ryglewicz, originally a lawyer who then turned to developing a skincare range based on her passion for science-based natural products and supporting the global environment. About the ingredients in the E-Serum, Joanna explains:
‘Pentylene glycol and phenethyl alcohol are both 100% natural origin ingredients, already COSMOS-approved and compliant with standards for natural cosmetics. Pentylene glycol is manufactured from non-food parts of corn (cobs) and sugar cane (bagasse), while phenethyl alcohol is isolated from bark and branches of Cinnamomum cassia.’
So that told us! As we said, Oio Lab E-Serum is a very interesting product from a mould-breaking natural brand.
