Help Save Our Salons!
We may be lamenting snaggy nails, visible roots and less-than-show-offable feet during this latest lockdown – but this is so, so minor compared to what salon owners are going through right now.
Whatever your feelings about lockdown, there is no question that it’s proving devastating for the spas, salons and nail bars who keep us ‘polished’, groomed and – let’s face it – do far more for our wellbeing and sanity than most politicians will ever understand.
We have salon owner friends who are currently doubting whether they will EVER be able to open again – and as entrepreneurs ourselves, our hearts go out to those people, as well as their incredibly creative teams.
So we were delighted to hear from Hellen Ward, a driving force in the beauty world, about the Save Our Salons campaign, which has ‘a collective single mission to Save Our Salons, our businesses and the people who work in them.’
Save Our Salons has set up a website that gives salon owners a step by step guide and useful fact sheet plus a template letter to send direct to their local MP, with the aim of better support being offered to this massively important sector (including having a reduced VAT rate applied to services).
True, things took a giant leap forward just a few days ago with the recognition by the government (thanks to the actions of the British Beauty Council) that this industry shouldn’t be lumped with ‘hospitality’, but is a huge sector in its own right. But there is still much action that the government could and should be taking to ensure the livelihoods of the salons that so desperately need support.
Simply visit the link here to see what YOU can do to take action – and if you’ve a friend or relative in the business, do encourage them to sign up, too.
