Fab Find of the Week: Klorane skincare
Well, this made us sit up and take notice. Klorane – a French pharmacy brand we’ve known and loved since teenage years, when their chamomile-infused shampoo took excellent care of our (then) natural blonde locks – have just launched their first skincare line.
They’ve long had an excellent cornflower-based eye make-up remover in the line, but nonetheless, this is a major step.
It is, as you’d expect if you’re familiar with the brand, powered by the botanicals which have been Klorane’s signature since 1965 (yes, really), when Pierre Fabre founded the brand in south-west France.
Fast-forward. Incorporating near or nearabouts 100% natural ingredients, COSMOS-certified organic* and vegan with it (PLUS the packaging is in many cases recycled and all recyclable), the initial skincare edit of cleansers, mosturisers and masks is sub-divided into different skin areas: sensitive skin (Organic Peony collection), combination/oily (Organic Aquatic Mint), Organic Cornflower for all skintypes (including thirsty).
We tried a selection across the different collections, and are particularly enjoying these highlights…
Purifying Stick Mask with Organic Mint/£19.50 for 25g. These two masks (see also below) are our favourites from the collection, for sheer ease of use. You swivel up the product (it looks almost like a deodorant), and sweep it over the face, massaging it into the nose area where it’s harder for the stick to access. This one freshens, cools, brightens and de-clogs pores, based around white clay – yet surprisingly, not drying to skin. Leave on for 5-10 minutes.
Soothing Stick Mask with Organic Peony/£19.50 for 25g. Actually, we ‘multi-masked’ with these two masks, applying the Purifying Stick Mask to the chin, nose and T-zone, and smoothing this nourishing version into the rest of the face. In this case, shea butter and argan oil deliver a real sense of comfort and nourishment.
Water Cream with Organic Cornflower/£25.50 for 50ml. Gosh, this is lush! Instantly hydrating, it’s the cool drink of water that skin needs in summer. 99% natural origin ingredients include hyaluronic acid and glycerine; cornflower, meanwhile, is renowned for its soothing effect. (We’d like this in a vat, actually, for top-to-toe application.) *COSMOS certification is pending on this collection.
With a longstanding commitment to the plant kingdom via the Klorane Botanical Foundation, the brand has also partnered with institutions including the Beijing Institute of Botany (to protect wild peonies that are threatened with extinction), a water clean-up project in the Cévennes, also working to reduce the eco-footprint of the cornflower by sourcing within 48kms of the extraction site.
None of it silly prices, and all of it really rather exciting for lovers of natural skincare. Like us.
