Fab Find of the Week: James Read Self Glow
Mega news, this. Because we reckon nobody knows more about self-tanners than James Read (20 years and counting at the top of his profession) – and this new range, Self Glow, features our favourite James creations yet.
Five products just dropped – unveiled to press JUST before Jo headed beach-wards in April, so she was really able to put a couple of them through their paces. And, with summer lagging firmly behind where it’s meant to be, they are now front and centre on the bathroom shelf, making us look way healthier than the weather is making us feel.
The range debuts with five skincare-led, exclusive-to-Space-NK products – more to come, we’re promised, but an absolutely stellar start. Here are the two that we’ve tried (and we’ve high hopes for the others).
Self Glow by James Read Break of Dawn Nourishing Glow Mask/£39 for 60ml. The most brilliant first-night-of-your-holiday product, this – or for when skin needs a gentle uptick in its glow factor. Smooth into skin – it’s nourishing, with kakadu plum, squalane, vitamin E, aloe vera (oh, and fermented mushrooms) – then 20 minutes later, rinse away with warm water. You’ll look like you had a day in the sun – nothing scare-the-horses, all so natural. (Remember to wash hands after use, NB.)
Self Glow by James Read Sunbright Tinted Tan Drops/£39 for 30ml. Wake up. Look in the mirror. Say ‘Ye Gods’, out loud – then add a couple of drops of this customisable TEMPORARY tan to your moisturiser, serum or SPF, and feel a whole lot better about yourself. And the weather. And the world.

Self Glow by James Read Endless Summer Everyday Tan Lotion/£44 for 200ml. James’s previous gradual tanner has long been a cult favourite, but with its nourishing cargo of hyaluronic acid, shea butter and aloe vera, we think you’ll love how this moisturises, as well as delivers a glow that you simply build, day after day, to your desired level of bronzitude – and then apply every few days for maintenance.
Self Glow by James Read Sunrise to Sundown Tinted Tan Serum/£44 for 150ml. Again, with that radiance-boosting, skin-plumping blend of ingredients, this is for face or body: once a week will leave you golden, twice a week bronzed. Haven’t tried it, can’t testify – but if the rest of the range is anything to go by…
Of COURSE we’d like the sun to appear, and stay in the sky. But thanks, James, for the back-up plan! (And it bears repeating: we’d never, ever deliberately tan our faces via actual sunlight.)
