Fab Find of the Week: Gloved by Tom Daxon
Tom Daxon probably has hand wash flowing through his veins. He’s from ‘Handwash Royalty’ - because if there’s such a thing, his mother – who was the driving force behind Molton Brown for many years – is definitely it, and Tom grew up being whisked to Grasse as a child, meeting perfumers and smelling amazing smells.
He’s made a name for himself since then as a ‘rising star’ British perfumer, with his own namesake Tom Daxon fragrance collection.
But now he’s launched a handcare collection – Gloved – that will certainly dial up the handwashing experience we’ve all become so familiar with, in 2020.
As it happens, Global Handwashing Day fall this Thursday, so we thought this was super-timely – as well as super-fab. (Even though it feel as if we’re in ‘Global Handwashing YEAR’.) These hand products aren’t cheap – they’re fine fragrance 7products, essentially – but these are whacking great bottles and though we’ve been using them for weeks, the level’s going down very slowly.
The Gloved Active-Hydrate Hand Wash is more than just ‘non-drying’; it features natural humectants and emollients, so you don’t really need to use the hand cream. But you’ll want to: this swiftly-absorbed hand cream is just heaven, with its very unisex cedarwood scent.
The glass bottles come with a pump separately – and then in future, you take £1 off the price of the products, when you replenish, because you reuse the pump (which is the only non-recyclable element).
The whole Gloved project has been thought through with respect for the environment, as well as our hands. As Tom tells us: ‘The bottle is glass, the cap is aluminium, and all the protective and shipping packaging is recycled cardboard (no boxes filled with bubble wrap or plastic packing chips here). Unlike plastics these materials are easily recycled and if they’re not they won’t bob around in the sea shedding microplastics.’
Frankly at this stage in the proceedings, we could do with something that puts the joy back in handwashing – and these are it. We’re definitely feeling Glove-d up…
