Six of the best: Chanel's make-up pros share their fave products and best tips
Once upon a time, CHANEL’s ‘in real life’ make-up launches happened several times a year (and were absolute highlights). Since the pandemic, that pace has slowed (in-person launches just aren’t so frequent, now, for anyone) – but we were reminded the other day of how this brand works with some of the all-time greats.
We’ve actually been lucky enough to have our make-up done by many of these make-up artists, at those events. (Indeed, several of the CHANEL make-up team have contributed variously to our books). And we had the idea: would they maybe, just maybe, share with us – i.e. with you – some of their favourite CHANEL make-up finds, and how they like to use them…?
Above – from left to right – you’ll see Anna Payne; Kay Montano; Marco Antonio (the newest member of the team, who we’ve never actually met in person), Mary Greenwell; Ninni Nummela; and Zoe Taylor.
Read on to discover what they love – and how they love to apply it. (We’ve listed their Instagram handles below, with their tips, so you can follow.) We really hope this inspires you to have a play, find some new products – and experience once more the joy of CHANEL make-up.
Anna Payne
Her favourite product: CHANEL Baume Essential, in Sculpting (above). ‘This is a product I use on every single make-up session. It gives a perfect dewy look with the just the right amount of shimmer without being glittery. I use it on all the highpoints of the face and will often use it on the body, too – especially on the décolletage to give a heathy glow. It gives any look a beautiful glow.’ £36 – buy here
Kay Montano
Her favourite product: Rouge Allure Velvet Matte Lipstick. ‘A good, natural nude lip is a key essential in both my professional, and personal makeup wardrobe, and the shade Libre suits most fair-to medium skin types. It creates a cool 60s vibe for darker skin tones, too. I love it!’ £37 – buy here
Marco Antonio
His favourite product: Les Beiges Healthy Glow Foundation. ‘Once the skin is cleansed, prepped and moisturised, add a dot of Les Beiges foundation onto your forehead, cheeks, nose, and chin. Use a make-up sponge, brush, or your fingertips to blend the foundation outwards towards your hairline and jawline. Make sure to blend the foundation evenly to avoid any harsh lines or streaks. If you need more coverage in certain areas, you can apply a second layer of foundation in those areas. Remember, blending your foundation takes practice and patience; it may take some time to find the right technique and tool that works best for you, so don't be afraid to experiment and try different methods.’ £47 for 30ml – buy here
Mary Greenwell
Her favourite product: No °1 de CHANEL Revitalising Foundation. ‘This is a beautiful buildable foundation that illuminates, moisturises and protects the skin from the environment, containing red camellia oil. It is easily blended; gently apply with the fingers for a lovely light coverage, giving the skin a natural glow. There are so many shades available to find the perfect match for you, giving the skin a natural glow. Powders and creams can easily be applied on top to blush and shape the face for definition and added warmth. It really is the best for beautiful glowing skin.’ £57 for 30ml – buy here
Ninni Nummela
Her favourite product: Le Crayon Khôl. ‘A must-have in my makeup bag is the Ambre shade – this deep, burnished red khôl pencil is perfect for creating a lived-in smoky eye look, and this shade beautifully complements any eye colour.’ £26 – buy here
Zoe Taylor
Her favourite product: Les Beiges Healthy Glow Bronzing Cream. This is the closest thing you will ever get to a genuine tan. Les Beige bronzing cream glides onto the skin, blending perfectly into a moisturised face. And don’t forget to apply on your neck for extra jaw definition.’ £46 – buy here
