L'Officine Buly engraving service at Selfridges

We’re massive fans of L’Officine Buly, the Parisian apothecary brand brought back to life by Victoire de Taillac and her husband Ramdane Touhami. We used to lug the products back from Paris (trust us: the marble candles weigh a TON), but Buly now has its own quirkily beautiful boutique within Selfridges Oxford Street.

At the Buly counter (it’s opposite Hermès, no less, on the Ground Floor!) they’re offering a super-cool engraving service on the incredibly high quality, last-a-lifetime combs and their toothbrushes (though best not to keep those for a lifetime, folks). It’s £1 a letter, which considering the artisan craftsmanship isn’t bad.

But what we’re really loving is that you can have your initials engraved using a heritage font on the exquisite Buly soaps – a service that costs £5 on top of your chosen soap bar. Of that font, Buly tell us: ‘Created by the master printer Charles Mavelot in the 17th Century, these large drop caps (one for each letter of the alphabet), with their interlacing double lines, were inspired by the graceful suppleness of handwriting. They are world-famous for having long adorned various objects, documents, fabrics, linens and pieces of furniture, in particular the belongings of the royal family of France.;

The engraving’s not available online so you’ll have to make a personal (personalisation) pilgrimage to Selfridges.
