Oh, we love a facial oil. If moisturiser is your skin's drink, oils can be its 'food'. But most facial oils that cross our desk are powered by essential oils – and we have friends who can't use them. (Even one very good friend who goes into anaphylactic shock when exposed to aromatherapy oils.)

That's extreme. But others who've crossed our path just don't like the aroma- element of aromatherapy, while some complexions are just sensitive to these potent ingredients.

So for anyone who (for whatever reason) likes to steer clear of them, we've a welcome, just-launched alternative from this London-based natural skincare company, created by a mum of two. (Solo claim their products are organic, and founder Naz has 'a certificate in organic skincare', we're told – but a certification symbol backing up the claims wouldn't go amiss.)

This deeply nourishing oil features olive squalane (similar to skin's natural oils), white poppy seed oil (for firmness), meadowfoam seed oil (to lock in moisture) and broccoli seed oil, high in antioxidant vitamin C, to act as a barrier to environmental stress, plus rice bran oil, almond oil and organic rosemary extract.

It's rich enough for dry skins, but also suitable for acne-prone complexions. (We do wish that more oily-skinned readers would believe us when we say that facial oils can work to rebalance things.)

And not a whiff of an essential oil. (Or broccoli, for that matter.)
