Beauty Bible Loves… Proshine Cotton Scrub Towels and Proshine Solid Body Oil

We never knew we needed leg exfoliating tissues in our life… but, turns out we do.

These rode to the rescue after an early summer holiday (Jo’s). A delightful light bronze leg tan, casually acquired almost entirely while riding a book in the shade and when notching up her daily 10,000 steps in the Fuerteventura sunshine in the early morning or late afternoon, had turned into shin dandruff.

Fact: shins have no oil glands, so they are especially prone to dryness and peeling. (We’re very big on keeping this area supple, incidentally – it’s often overlooked, but we have had elderly ladies in our life blighted in late life by leg ulcers, and while not backed by science, we reckon it can’t hurt to keep this area nourished and healthy.)

So, Proshine Cotton Scrub Towels are biodegradeable single cotton sheet exfolliators with a clever textured surface which very effectively buff away flaking skin, leaving legs ultra-smooth. The advantage over a regular exfoliator is that you don’t have to get your legs wet to use them, so they’re great for bare leg emergencies. There’s retinol to unclog pores, shea butter for moisturisation, and healing vitamin E – and another use for them (other than smoothing shins) is to tackle self-tan ‘bloopers’. (NB Can’t find anywhere on the packaging or online how many towels are in the pack, but it’s hefty – and we reckon, at least 30.)

For nourishment and extra shine, Jo then swiped on Proshine Solid Body Oil, a twist-up stick of – yes, solid body oil, which melts on contact with skin, ready for massaging in. Advantage of this? It won’t leak all over your luggage if you’re flying (and yes, that has happened to us more than once).

This was the debut product in the Proshine collection, created by make-up artist Clara O’Shea, initially to use on shoots to enhance skin under different lighting conditions, and it’s great for shoulders, arms, anywhere that needs a bit of extra (vegan, cruelty-free) TLC. Proshine’s mission is to create [roducts that are ‘fuss-free, portable, natural, high performance and fun.’

FYI, the oil – with its blend of mango and shea butters, tamanu and moringa oils – is fragranced with notes of jasmine, cedar leaf, zesty petitgrain and May Chang, with a sort of spa-y, floral vibe.

Unless you drop something in her presence, you’re unlikely to get close enough to Jo’s shins to appreciate that – but take it from us: they happen to smell GREAT, as well as being satin-smooth.
