Beauty Bible Loves... make-up tips for the hot weather

Ooof. We weren’t at ALL prepared for this late summer burst of hot weather, with absolutely zero time to acclimatise! But with perfect timing, these tips landed on our desk this morning from beauty website Justmylook – find it here – to avoid make-up meltdown, and ensure it lasts all day. Really rather cool, all of them!

Wait at least 15 mins after applying your SPF

Everyone should be wearing SPF daily to protect themselves from UV rays, regardless of the weather, and allow at least 15 minutes for the product to absorb in the skin before applying makeup. Applying makeup immediately after SPF could interfere with the process of absorption, meaning you might not be as protected, and can also lead to uneven coverage or makeup application.

Don’t skip on the primer

A step in the makeup routine that usually gets missed out on those busy work days, however, this step is crucial in making sure your makeup withstands the heat and lasts all day. Primer makes a smooth surface for makeup to cling to, as well as offers that extra hit of hydration, essential in making sure your look stays put.

Less is more

Opt for a minimal makeup look in the heat. Wearing more layers of makeup increases the chances of a patchy makeup look by the end of the day. Strip back your makeup look and opt for a dewy lightweight foundation, bushy brows, and glossy lips for a cool, calm, and collected summer makeup look that lasts all day long.

Waterproof products

It can be hard out there in the heat, so switching to waterproof products can help prevent your makeup from sweating off during the day. Using a rich, moisturising foundation base can lead to makeup sliding and sweating off so opt for a waterproof, oil-free lightweight base and make sure to remove waterproof mascara with formulated waterproof makeup remover at the end of the day.

Avoid shine with powder

Certain parts of the face are more prone to shine when dealing with heat, so make sure to apply translucent powder areas such as the T-zone to keep your complexion looking cool. Remember don’t use too much powder as it can look cakey in the heat and make sure to top up those oily areas throughout the day.

Lock it in with setting spray

Finally, make sure to lock in your look with a good setting spray. Setting spray ultimately prevents makeup from smudging and melting off in hot weather. So once you're happy with your look, apply a few sprays to smudge-proof your makeup. You can also use a setting spray to refresh your makeup look throughout the day.
