Jo Malone London x Richard Quinn

We confess we have been known to judge a book by its cover. We have also been persuaded to buy something so that we could keep and treasure the box, afterwards – and that's certainly one reason to buy something from this collaboration between Jo Malone London and fashion designer Richard Quinn.

Some of JML's best-loved scents and candles are currently being showcased in beautiful, flower-adorned limited boxes. We haven't ever really thrown a 'normal' (as in cream and black) Jo Malone box away: they're used for ribbons, greetings cards, cables... But these? Currently on our wishlist, these would take pride of place somewhere chintzy, in the house. (Chintz on chintz. Always a good look, in our book.)

As the St. Martin's-trained designer, whose clothes are much-loved by fashionistas, observes: 'I don't like the idea of throwaway things, especially objects.' There are three different 'stories' with different prints, 'and different prints inside the boxes,' he continues. 'It means that the boxes can be reused after you've finished the products, so you still have that memory. It's all about that kind of eclectic, vintage nostalgia.'

Choose from...

Tuberose Angelica Design Edition Ceramic Candle/£95. A stunning ceramic vessel, for this classic candle.

The Wild Flower Pair Design Edition Candle Duo/£100 for 2 x 200g candles, featuring Honeysuckle & Davana and Wild Bluebell, in a dainty flower-sprigged 'hatbox'.

The Fruity Floral Pair/£100 for 2 x 200g candles, pairing bestselling JML candles, Peony & Blush Suede and English Pear & Freesia. (Our fave of the whole special edition.)

And coming soon, Peony & Blush Suede Design Limited Edition Scented Liners/£40. (A fab pressie for someone who loves to Marie Kondo their lingerie drawer, because these are guaranteed to spark joy – and they’ll probably never justify buying them for themselves.)

With boxes as gorgeous as these, the candles are almost like a gift with purchase, as far as we're concerned... Expensive, yes. Special? Very.
