We’ve long applauded the drive by Jo Malone London to support mental health charities. In fact, they’ve been doing this since 2012, when the mental challenges faced by so many were far less widely shared and talked-about.
And we’re always excited to smell each new year’s fund-raising candle – this time, a powdery, pretty, very slightly zesty candle, as ever presented in a specially designed vessel and created to evoke ‘the fresh, inviting scent of a wild, winding path.’ (Has us dreaming of spring, actually.)
10 years on from their first fund-raising candle (as we recall, in aid of the horticultural therapy charity, Thrive), this heralds the newly-established Shining A Light On Mental Health Foundation, which has been set up ‘to support individuals and families affected by mental health challenges through dedicated projects with inspirational charities, raising awareness and providing support through the sales of our Charity Home Candle Collection.’
For each candle sold in the UK and the Republic of Ireland, Jo Malone London will donate 75% of the retail price (minus the taxman’s VAT slice) to the foundation. And three cheers to them, for the more that can be done to bring issues of mental health into the open, and help those going through them, the happier the world we’ll be living in.
