Dermalogica recyclable pumps

This is a real beauty breakthrough – but it isn’t an ingredient, or a novel product; it’s a… a pump.

Yup. A pump. Because from a reycling point of view, pumps have been a nightmare. They have traditionally contained ‘componentry’ (boring industry word for different parts) that are made of different materials – plastic, but with a metal spring – and so couldn’t be recycled successfully. So: from an eco-perspective, fine if you can buy a refill, otherwise… not.

In fact, according to Dermalogica’s Chief Executive Officer Aurelian Lis, the beauty industry ‘has a pump problem.’

But hey, not any more. Dermalogica are integrating recyclable pumps into their cleanser range. Instead of a metal spring, theirs is made of recyclable polyethylene plastic, but with no impact on pumpability – meaning you can recycle the whole thing. (The new pump’s lighter in weight, too – so: less virgin plastic used.)

It’s Dermalogica’s wider goal to have 100% of its bottles designed to be reused, recycled or composted by 2025.
