Beauty Bible Loves... Officine Universelle Buly Eau Gymnastique

Gosh, bet there are a lot of sweaty trainers in Paris right now. Tennis shoes. Running shoes. Basketball shoes.

Well, we propose that the Olympic athletes might find time between races and games to hot-foot it (er, literally) to one of the Parisian branches of Buly (full, fancy name: Officine Universelle Buly), to pick up one of these rather marvellous Eau Gymnastique sprays. Happily for those of us with households where manky trainers are an issue, it’s also available mail order in the UK (and at Selfridges, where you’ll find all Buly’s delights at their ground floor counter).

Apart from being the sexiest-ever looking spray for refreshing trainers, this also smells… well, astonishingly like ‘new trainers’. Fresh and (in truth) a tiny bit plasticky-in-a-good-way, this ‘shoe perfume’ is truly a bit of fun, gorgeous-looking AND practical. (Not cheap – but cheaper than chucking out your skanky trainers, let’s face it.)

If trainers are properly sweaty, Buly recommend dusting inside with baking powder – a tried and tested method for absorbing moisture – before leaving overnight, then shaking it out before spritzing from a distance of around 30ml. And of course, it can be used on any shoes that are having a personal hygiene problem, not only trainers...

Through microencapsulation, as Buly tell us, ‘The scent will gradually diffuse when you wear them… whether you are walking to buy a baguette or running a marathon.’

In truth, much more likely to be the former, in our case!
