Give echinacea time to work. Research by the Common Cold Centre indicates that taking echinacea long-term really can see off a cold, or at least cut it short. For maximum protection, start now (if you’re not already taking it), before your defences are worn down for winter, advises Vicki Edgson. ‘Take it for six weeks, then have a break before starting again.’
