Keep a pack of hand towelettes in your make-up bag.  When you’re kept waiting (say, for a dentist’s appointment, or on a long train journey), spend a couple of minutes sorting, tidying and wiping clean the contents of your make-up bag.  Wet wipes clean compacts, mascara tubes and lipstick packaging miraculously. (For extra polish, buff with a clean tissue afterwards.)
