The sweet smell of Liz Earle’s latest success

Discover Botanical Essence No. 1 at the Chelsea Flower Show this week After such a late spring, the world is bursting into bloom right now – and nowhere more so than Chelsea, where the annual floral festival is under way.  (It opens to the public today.)

It would be a pretty apt time for any brand to launch an extravagant floral fragrance – but there’s a nice story behind Liz Earle Botanical Essence No. 100.  It actually celebrates the 100th birthday of the Chelsea Flower Show, the highlight of the Royal Horticultural Society’s calendar, and is launched in partnership with the RHS.

Created by gifted French perfumer Alienor Massenet, it’s a fabulous contemporary fragrance which really does give the sense that you’re walking into a florist’s shop.  Think:  an uplifting opening ‘whoosh’ of mandarin and bergamot, softening to notes of orange flower, Damask rose and Indian jasmine, all underpinned by cypress, sandalwood and Bourbon vanilla.  And – a real achievement for a fine fragrance – it’s over 90% derived from naturals.

In a fragrance world that sets out to shock, the trio of Liz Earle fragrances (you may already know Botanical Essences No. 1 and No. 15) have an incredibly wide appeal - because they’re quite simply beautiful smells.  Nothing quirky, or too daring:  just bottled gorgeousness.  Contemporary – but classic, at the same time.

Liz's last fragrance, Botanical Essence No. 15, just scooped a FiFi Award from The Fragrance Foundation as 'Perfume Extraordinaire 2012'.

Can't wait till next year's judges get their nostrils round this florabundant new classic...
