Sanderson The Archive Collection

Being a complete Sanderson 'nut' – a long-term collector, actually, with drawersful of vintage fabric from the renowned British interiors name – Jo unsurprisingly got extremely excited to discover that the excellent Heathcote & Ivory (whose products we've often picked as Beauty Bible Loves) were launching bath and bodycare. Cue great excitement when Jo got to visit the archive while researching more about the range – which takes some of Sanderson's best-loved fabrics and wallpapers as its inspiration, reworking the colours for the packaging (and adding on-trend rose gold flourishes).

It would have been tempting simply to create fragrances which echoed the designs – but that would have been rather predictable. Instead, the perfumers behind the creations took the fabrics as a cue to head off in an entirely more creative direction. (The numbers refer to the date the design was first created – but for this packaging, striking new colourways have been devised.)

Chelsea 1960 (their best-known design, with its explosion of roses) has been reworked in brighter tones – and as H&I explain, 'reflecting the new colourway, notes of sweet chocolate, gardenia, rose and patchouli are offset with vanilla and sandalwood evoking the vibrancy and decadence of the swinging 60s and iconic Sanderson furnishing design.'

Rose & Peony 1927 (another very familiar design to many of us) – there's a revival of the cool fougère category of fragrances happening right now; this taps in nicely to that trend. 'Aromatic and green to reflect the fresh new colour way, it features bergamot, cardamom, nutmeg and lavender rest on a base of amber, vanilla and tonka.'

Stapleton Park 1986 – 'Top notes of fresh raspberry and mandarin, invigorating coriander and pepper give way to jasmine, ylang ylang and rose with touches of spice. Warmed with woods and spices on a luxurious sandalwood and iris base.'

Sorilla 1964 - our favourite of the fragrances (pictured above), an incredibly sophisticated blend which somehow evokes the English country house perfectly, with its layers of scent. 'Coolness and warmth combine. Notes of smoke and leather are enlivened with beautiful violet and rose. Hints of patchouli, iris and exotic woods meld into a lavish base of amber, soft suede and sandalwood. A country house library filled with antiquarian books, a leather inlaid desk and fresh flowers.' We LOVE that this fragrance comes in drawer liners!

And all so beautifully packaged, they're quite the quickest (and nicest) makeover for a loo or bathroom that we can think of.
