Salons we love: MWnails
MWnails isn’t like any other nail salon you’ve ever visited. Or we’ve ever visited, come to that. Kitted out with the interior from a 70s plane, with treatment prices listed on a ‘flight departures board’ (over 30, in all), the pedicure chairs are reclaimed airline seats kitted out with foot spas – and the service is, quite literally, First Class. They call it The File High Club! (Though there’s no joining fee: simply book your appointment, and prepare for take-off.)
We’re soooooo not surprised that MWnails – with branches in Shoreditch and Holborn - was recently voted one of the UK’s best nail bars by Professional Beauty Magazine. We were so taken with our treatment that we promptly bought gift vouchers for friends and goddaughters. Because MWnails isn’t just a witty and different idea, executed with style – the pedicures and manicures are as good as you’ll get. What’s more, we thoroughly enjoyed the ‘In-Flight Extra’ - a glass of Prosecco with our treatment (£6 – or a bottle’s £20, if you’re there with friends…)
This is a really fantastic place for an outing with a girlfriend – or a hen party, or an office ‘do’. In fact, it’s so much fun that you’ll really want to share the experience with someone else. Sure enough, MWnails gives you the chance to ‘party like it’s 1972’, as they put it, taking bookings for parties and offering catering. (Naturally, cheese and pineapple on sticks feature. We have a sneaky love of those.)
Visit often enough, and you’ll notch up stamps in a Frequent Flyer passport – after 12 treatments, you’re entitled to a free Shanghai Shape, or £12 off any treatment. (Simply by introducing a friend to MWnails, you’ll each receive 500 miles…)
Though we’re not big on nail art ourselves, it’s a speciality – so if you’re feeling wild and wacky, the ‘Ground Crew’ is definitely game. The Spitalfields salon’s even open Sunday, when that area of London’s so buzzy and busy.
