Salons We Love: Truffle on Sea
Great hairdos, great coffee (or wine or beer if you prefer!), excellent manicures and superb beauty therapies from REN and St.Tropez... Is there anything more you could ask for in a salon? Well, yes. Having it on your doorstep. (Oh, and did we mention: sea views...?
So Jo couldn't be happier that Truffle – which used to be about 10 miles from her house, in the town of Rye – has now moved to cool-and-groovy St. Leonards-on-Sea, bringing great stylists (and a great injection of style) to this part of the south coast, not much more than a pebble's throw from her house.
We love the upcycled interior and retro furniture. A salon's ambience matters a lot to us. But Jo also loves the fact that she can get a hairdo at 8 a.m. before a busy day (feels a bit Dame Anna Wintour, but hey!), and loves the products Truffle uses – which are from the more-natural-than-most Davines range, hair-wise, alongside Percy & Reed.
Luke Sothcott gets a massive shout-out for a world-class blow-dry (not easy to achieve on Jo's wayward hair). And so does Sarah Taylor, the salon's owner, for having the drive and determination after 18 years of working in Soho (as a session stylist, much of the time) to recognise the need of 'Down From Londoners' (as they/we are known!) to have a top-notch salon that delivers the kind of styling and service you expect in the capital, but often can't find elsewhere.
A walk there from Jo's house notches up almost all the 10,000 steps she aims for each day, too! Which is just about the icing on the cake – or the chocolate on the excellent cappuccino, anyway.
