Every so often a product comes along which is a knock-your-socks-off innovation, and this is one. And it's from good old Rimmel!!! Jo – who has the palest imaginable lashes (and brows, come to that) – has been trialling this for a few weeks. First off, it's a mascara, offering pretty good lift, curl, length and jet-black colour – although she'll admit, she's making a bit of a trade-off performance-wise compared to her usual mascara, simply because of Volume Colourist's other important feature.

Because gradually, over a fortnight or so, it slowly tints lashes with a semi-permanent tint. Not a lot, but enough to make them NOT look completely invisible when Jo's not wearing mascara. (She will still be wearing mascara, for sure – but without any make-up, there's definitely a bit more definition.)

If Jo could wave a magic wand over this mascara, it would have a rubber wand, the better for gripping her very paltry lashes. But who's quibbling? This is a product that definitely makes a difference, if you've blonde or red lashes.

And is first of a category, we predict.
