Living with Movember man

First things first: we still swoon over a mustachio-d Clark Gable in Gone With The Wind.  And we really, really do give a damn about Movember, aka No Shave November, the global campaign that encourages men not to shave for 30 days to raise awareness of male cancers  (www.movember.com). But… while we are trying to go with the old adage that kissing a man without a moustache is like eating your boiled egg without salt-and-soldiers – well, the thought of that bristly facial fungus scratching our fragile complexions is making us a tad concerned.

Never let it be said, however, that we are failing to support the Mo Bros in their valiant efforts.  So here are a few tips on how to minimise the potential damage – as you cross off the days on the calendar…

The first scratch is the bristliest in the beard/moustache burn stakes.  So make sure he uses a moisturising cleanser and then applies a moisturiser so the hair is softer and less prickle-making on your skin.

As the moustache grows, persuade him to apply your favourite hair conditioner daily.  You could infer that it will encourage luxuriant growth.  (Which is probably true…)  A leave-on conditioner might be the wisest choice, too.

Don’t let him get up close and personal before you have applied an intensive moisturiser to your own face.  (Much as we love a nuzzle…)  Liz Earle Superskin Moisturiser is rich in anti-inflammatory oils to help protect your skin.  Cleanse first with the same brand’s Cleanse & Polish hot cloth cleanser, which contains beeswax for protection and pro-vitamin B5 to stimulate cellular renewal.

If you see any rash (you or him), immediately apply HealGel Intensive.  It was formulated by leading cosmetic surgeons to reduce inflammation and aid cell renewal.  Silicone in the formula provides a cooling barrier.

And just in case, invest in a great concealer.  Origins Quick, Hide! Long-Wearing Concealer comes in six shades from Light to Extra Deep, and is just brilliant.
