Kate Humble's 7 wellbeing secrets...

Kate Humble’s (fresh) face is incredibly familiar from TV. Adventurer, nature-lover, President of the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds, no less – and farmer, too: Kate and her husband have their own beautiful acres in the Wye Valley. She is best-known to us, though, as presenter of shows like Springwatch, Lambing Live and Animal Park: Wild in Africa. As she launches her own signature collection of eco-friendly bath and bodycare – Humble (which will feature through the rest of September and early October as a fab prize draw on this site) – we talked to Kate about how she stays balanced in a busy life…

Running gets me going in the morning. It’s the best start to the day: I take off with the dogs near my home in Monmouthshire - whatever the weather - for at least an hour.

I don’t drink. I discovered that wine doesn’t do me any good at all! I have the occasional gin & tonic as a treat, but that’s about it.

My natural sleep pattern is to go to bed early and wake up early. Most days I’ll wake up at 5.30am - and by 10pm, my eyes are struggling to stay open! It’s important to listen to your body and go with it. I do get very sporadic insomnia – but I’ve found that reflexology is really helpful for tackling this.

I drink hot water with lemon and honey each morning. It’s a great vitamin C hit. I remember when I was away filming in Australia a few years back and got a horrific cold. Nothing really seemed to help until I started taking Vitamin C each day, and it then cleared up really quickly. I’ve been taking it ever since and now convinced it helps stops those pesky bugs.

I spend as much time in the fresh air as possible. I always sleep with my windows open, whatever the time of year or wherever I am.

I don’t wear make-up. I hate the way it feels on my face – like clingfilm! My Mother was always very strict about me not wearing make-up, or having piercings when I was younger, so I think it stuck. But I do look after my skin which can get particularly dry as I’m outdoors a lot. I alternate between my new Sweet Pea & Verbena Body Lotion and Rose & Frankincense Body Lotion (£8 for 200ml each). The scents of both remind me of being in my beautiful garden at home.

I eat really healthily. I love cooking and, having the farm, I’m fortunate that I can chose where my food comes from. I never eat ready meals and instead prefer to cook meat and vegetables from the farm. We have the UK’s only Aquaponics Solar greenhouse, meaning we have wonderful produce all year round.
