InLight Beauty Lip Serum

So first, a little bit of ancient history. Beauty Bible's Jo first wrote about Dr. Mariano Spiezia over two decades ago for a feature for YOU Magazine, where she was Beauty Editor for many years.

She visited the Cornish spot where this homeopath macerated his oils by moonlight to gather their plant power, and transformed them into beautiful balms and salves – for his then brand Spiezia Organics. It was pioneeringly organic and natural, long before 'clean' became the beauty buzzword that it is today.

Time moved on, and Spiezia Organics was acquired by someone else – but that wasn't the end of the story for Mariano and his wife Loredana. They resurfaced, phoenix-like, with a new brand – Inlight Beauty. Since those early days, natural beauty formulations have advanced apace – and Inlight has since launched products that are a quantum leap, texture-wise, from those early balms. (The packaging is hugely improved, too – and call us shallow, but we all shop with our eyes as well as our other senses.)

And this one – Inlight Beauty Lip Serum – is right up there, texture-wise and performance-wise, with anything we've tried for the lip zone. In fact, we're more than a little addicted. The rich, serum-like formula glides on with the help of a pleasingly cooling metal rollerball, dispensing a silky (taste-free) blend that is powered with repairing oils of baobab, rosehip and sea buckthorn, along with calendula extract, star anise essential oil and more.

At the heart of the product is an ingredient that runs like a leitmotif through all of Inlight's products, Dr. Spiezia's Bio Lipophilic Matrix – a patented blend of organic plant oils that power the performance of Inlight's skincare.

We love it on lips, but because the area around the lips is prone to feathery fine lines, we like to apply it at night and smooth into the surrounding skin. But by day, it's also brilliant – a great base for a rich lipstick, we're finding, to create a beautiful sheer but intensely pigmented stain.

So 'mwah, mwah', Inlight. Pleased to have our old friends back in our beauty regimes, after all these years.
