We wondered if somehow we'd been living on another planet for only just stumbling across this – basically, make-up's answer to the Great British Bake- Off.

Better late than never, because Glow Up is completely riveting and rather beautiful – a TV reality show in which unbelievably talented make-up artists are set challenges and compete to become a creative superstar. A lot of the challenges involve special effects rather than the sort of 'Like you, but prettier' approach taken by the Bobbi Browns of this world, but any lingering thought that this was a show only for people way, way younger than us was nixed by realising that one of the judges is our legendary make-up artist colleague, Val Garland, who is most definitely a proper grown-up. (The other is MAC’s runway make-up genius Dominic Skinner.)
