Gary Cockerill shares his make-up secrets for autumn
Exclusively for Beauty Bible, über-wonderful make-up artist Gary Cockerill, author of Simply Glamorous, tells you all you need to know to look gorgeous as the season changes. Gary’s five key products to make your skin look sensational:
• Protective primer to disguise large pores, mattify oily skin, improve skin texture and help foundation glide on smoothly and stay put for longer: Smashbox Photo Finish Foundation Primer/£25.50, or Illamasqua Radiance Veil/£32, a primer/illuminator which is especially good for older skins to help plump and refresh.
• Light-as-a-feather foundation to even skin tone for daytime: try MAC Face and Body Foundation/£22 in 13 shades, or Bourjois Radiance Reveal Healthy Mix Foundation/£9.99 in eight shades.
• Cream blush to give a glow: powder can sit in lines so choose a cream blush and apply it sparingly with your finger; an apricot shade suits most skin types. If you have a thin face put it on the apple of your cheeks, for a fuller face wing it out slightly above your cheekbone. Try Topshop Cream Blush/£7 (the two shades Head Over Heels and Flush look a bit scary in the pots but melt into your skin giving a perfect glow).
• For concealer, instead of buying a dedicated concealer use your foundation but two or three shades lighter, so it is the same consistency and range of shades. If you need to colour correct redness in skin or dark circles, try Studio 10 Age Defy Skin Perfector palette/£32, which contains a primer, plus two concealers which you can blend for a bespoke shade and two colour-neutralising cream formulas, green to counteract redness and peach to disguise dark circles.
• To lift and brighten tired eyes instantly, try Charlotte Tilbury light reflective Mini Miracle Eye Wand/£29 in four shades. It’s a brilliant quick pick-me-up.
And here are Gary’s tips for glamming up your daytime look for night: there is a fab Day to Night section in Simply Glamorous, which details how to make your look more dramatic for evening.
Eyeliner is quite simply the LBD of make-up so try kohl liner (such as Burberry Eyes Effortless Kohl Eyeliner/£18.50) inside the waterline. Define your brows, and add a few false lashes if you have time or try Urban Decay Supercurl Curling Mascara/£15.50.
Touch up your foundation, add light-reflecting highlighter (like Charlotte Tilbury Wonderglow/£38.50) to give the skin a radiant glow, blend in another touch of blush, and set with translucent powder.
Prime lips with foundation and powder to knock back the colour and create a long-lasting base then line lips with a soft beige pencil, (like MAC Spice Lip Liner/£12.50) bringing the colour in from the edge. Blot and fill in with creamy nude lipstick in a matte or satin finish (try Urban Decay Revoloution Lipstick in shade, Naked 2). Blot again and repeat. Add a dab of gloss to your bottom lip if you like.
