Dermalogica partners with Shear Haven, to educate about violence against women
We love it when beauty brands pair up with difficult but important causes. Violence against women isn’t glamorous, but we’re all conscious of how vital an issue it is.
So we’re delighted to hear that salon skincare brand Dermalogica is becoming an official partner of the charity initiative ‘Shear Haven’, seeking to provide domestic violence education to the UK and Ireland’s skin care professionals.
They tell us: ‘The ambition of the partnership is to ensure that all professional skin therapists are trained to spot the signs of domestic violence and know how to respond appropriately.’
Shear Haven started in the States, co-founded in 2017 by Susanne Post, a Nashville-based salon owner and a stylist, educating salons and stylists in anti-domestic violence training. ‘A survivor of domestic violence herself, Susanne is committed to educating the community on the signs of abuse and the available resources to help victims. This education program was set up to equip stylists with the knowledge and tools to recognise the signs of domestic violence, successfully manage conversations with clients who may be in danger and pass along tools to help them get to safety.’ To date, more than 50,000 beauty therapists and stylists from around the world have taken the training.;
So over on this side of the pond, Dermalogica will be working with Shear Haven and their UK and Ireland Ambassadors, Salon Business Expert, Liz McKeon, and international wellness journalist and author, Mark Smith, to reach out to more professionals who could benefit from the training and provide signposting to appropriate services and resources.
Candice Gardner, Dermalogica Education Manager notes: ‘Skin care professionals are often trusted confidants and salon environments may provide no-judgement emotional safe spaces for those in difficult circumstances. Knowing how to guide clients and team members to the right support services and professionals when they need it could be life saving for an individual. Every skin therapist needs this training, and we are passionate about ensuring it is easily accessible.’
