Fab Find of the Week: Susie Mermaid Face & Body Collection

We feel that this is really a brand for our times – and gosh, we’re loving using it. Created by a holistic therapist (below), whose Sussex treatment rooms Jo will be beating a path to just as soon as it’s allowed, Susie Mermaid has offered us something of an escape from the many cares of the past few weeks.

With formulations that are 99-100% natural (and anywhere between 63.9-98.12% organic), GM-free, decanted into recyclable/upcyclable packaging, all made in the UK and featuring sustainably-sourced British seaweed, this chimes with what we’re hearing: that many want to support small and purpose-led brands, moving forward.

Susie Mermaid is described as a ‘modern mystic’, with this range aimed at restoring emotional wellbeing for ‘ethereal beauty’. Inspired by the sea and the many coastal regions Susie has visited over the years, the range is designed to ‘sing to your inner mermaid’ (she’s never far beneath the surface, actually), promising ‘head to tail radiance.’ (Love that.) There’s an intro video on the home page of Susie Mermaid’s website here which could easily tip over into naffness, but doesn’t at all. In fact, we watched it three times in a row, just to feel calmer.

The particular products we’ve enjoyed are the body treats. Sea Goddess Marine Retreat Bath Oil/£80 for 100ml), infused wit spirulina, minerals and EFAs, with uplifting rosemary and thyme. This has been a real mood-lifter. The Seaweed Silk Deluxe Hydration Body Butter/£85 for 200ml) continues the silkifying experience, via a luscious, buttery blend based around shea butter, jojoba oil, kelp and spirulina, with a breezy and – yes – seaside-y scent of citrus and herbs.

What we would say, though, is that these products are decidedly luxury-priced – not for mermaids on a budget. But absolutely gorgeous, if pennies allow. And if you’re strapped for cash? The video’s free. We defy you not to want to plan a coastal walk and a dip in the ocean, as soon as you can get there.
