Dear NHS book
Never before have we come to appreciate the wonders of the NHS as we have during these past few months. We clapped for carers as if our lives depended on it (they did, in many cases), and many people who have taken the NHS and its front-liners for granted now understand how amazing it is to have free, top-notch healthcare available to all, here.
This wonderful book – surely destined for bestsellerdom – is edited by Adam Kay (author of multi-million bestseller This is Going to Hurt), and brings together stories from 100 well-known people, sharing their appreciation for the NHS via personal stories.
They include Paul McCartney, Dawn French, Stephen Fry, Joanna Lumley, Miranda Hart, Ed Sheeran, Dame Julie Walters, Sandi Toksvig and Malala Yousafzai – not to mention Catherine Mayer, author and founder of the Women’s Equality Party (and a dear friend of Jo’s), who lost her husband Andy Gill right at the start of the epidemic. Essentially, 100 love letters to this amazing organisation.
The stories in Dear NHS are inspiring, heart-breaking, uplifting – and all profits from the book will go to NHS Charities Together (to fund research and projects), together with The Lullaby Trust, which supports parents bereaved of babies and young children.
This makes a wonderful gift for anyone who’s had experience of the NHS themselves, or as a thank-you for frontline friends and family – and while we’d rather you bought it at an independent bookshop (they need all the help we can give them), there’s a link to Amazon below.
