Fab Find of the Week: Coco Mademoiselle Hair Perfume – and Whitney Peak, as Chanel’s newest ‘face’
Last week, we popped into a little secret showroom just off Bond Street to wallow in Coco Mademoiselle for a wee while, and to see the fabulous and ground-breaking ad for what has become one of the world’s bestselling fragrances. Why ground-breaking? Because this is the first Black woman to be chosen for this prestigious role, stepping into Keira Knightley’s ballet flats at the tender age of just 20.
Should Whitney Peak not be on your cultural radar, by the way, here’s a quick catch-up: this Ugandan-born, Canadian young woman is a rising star actor who has featured in the super-successful ‘Gossip Girl’, and also as the lead in ‘Hocus Pocus 2’. Um, have to say, we knew her better from fronting the campaigns for the iconic Chanel 22 handbag.
She’s gorgeous. And this is the kind of inclusive advertising that we want to see more of. But we also went along not just to see the advert she stars in, above – and the charming behind the scenes video, which you can watch below – but also to remind ourselves just how good Coco Mademoiselle smells.
The new Hair Perfume is a lovely way to experience it – not least because spraying hair is such a wonderful way to enjoy fragrance, giving off little wafts each time you turn your head. Perfume loves to cling to hair, but unlike some formulations, this Hair Perfume is specially formulated to be kind to your ’do.
We’re sure you know Coco Mademoiselle, which has really grown on us over the years. Just sweet enough to be pretty-pretty, but with lashings of patchouli – one of our favourite ingredients – in the dry-down, along with amber, tonka bean and woods.
A wonderful rediscovery, for us. And while Whitney Peak may be much, much younger than we are, it’s a scent that actually does work at every age.
