Clinique Pep-Start HydroBlur Moisturiser

Once upon a time, there was a little tube of miracle-worker called Tri-Aktilline. It did incredibly well in our Beauty Bible trials, and we loved to carry it in our handbags for on-the-go line-blurring – because that's what it did, incredibly effectively. And then that brand pretty much disappeared from the UK market, and we've struggled to find anything as good. Until now. This is, though, a different type of product: it's an all-over face-blurring primer/moisturiser, rather than something you 'squeeze' and then pat into expression lines. It's a decent enough moisturiser, but where it comes into its own is that it leaves skin looking truly airbrushed.

We could tell from the texture that it'd be good – it's clearly packed with silicones, which notoriously do a great line-blurring task. There are almost certainly light-diffusing pigments in there, too, to further soften the appearance of wrinkles. The finish is actually matte, though, rather than radiant – great for this season's must-have velvety skin finish.

But when you apply make-up over the top, it's as if the whole face has been soft-focused. We've also tried it over make-up on specific lines – and it mimics the effect of our long-lost Tri-Aktilline.

On which note: Clinique, pretty-please, can we now have this in a small tube of Pep-Start HydroBlur Moisturiser, for on-the-go blurring...?

The pot's not heavy – and we have indeed been carrying it around – but an eye cream-sized tube would be even more portable...
