We’re not massive fans of ‘party make-up palettes’ – for a start, we don’t personally like our ‘party make-up’ to look massively different to how we do it for daytime. Just a little touch of shimmer, a slightly smokier eye – and a rich lip colour.

This Bobbi Brown palette will be a keeper, though: a truly classic combo of nine shadows which are sort of the shadow equivalent of your Little Black Dress: silky-textured creations to take you just about anywhere, spanning a pale shimmering silver through classic cream and taupe, a flash of understated rather than OTT gold, and some seriously smoky shades to ranp up the smoulder factor. They all glide on beautifully – and stay put for hours (eliminating any need to summon your pumpkin carriage at midnight).

Just add a jewel-toned lip – perhaps one to match the deep burgundy laquer of the compact itself – and you’re absolutely prêt-a-party.
