Beauty Clinic: Lighter foundation for summer
Q. In the summer I like to wear very light foundation or tinted moisturiser (with a bit of camouflage rather than totally sheer). What are your favourites please? A. It’s wonderful what a golden glow can do for your appearance so we have quite a wardrobe of them. There are some fabulous ‘your skin but better’ products around, the latest of which is the new Estée Lauder Double Wear Nude Water Fresh Makeup SPF30. Sarah is a bit bowled over by this since she was colour-matched at Selfridges (actually worth battling Oxford Street for). In a brain boggling 33 colours (that's why you should try before you buy)/£32.50.
This new Lauder foundation truly is light as a feather but covers beautifully, leaves the subtlest dewy sheen and lasts through a heat wave. Just be careful when you tip the bottle – the contents are liquid and you might get a lot more than you bargained for. The key is to keep your finger over the top and let it drip out slowly.
Another new arrival this year is Charlotte Tilbury Unisex Healthy Glow All-year Hydrating Summer Tint Moisturiser/£35. This ‘smart’ moisturiser pops out looking off-white and then adapts to your skin tone, transforming your complexion to a truly gorgeous sun-kissed glow. This doesn't contain an SPF but we prefer to use a separate one before if we are going out in the sun anyway. It’s pretty sheer so you might want to dab a spot of Charlotte’s fab concealer The Retoucher on blemishes, in ten shades, £25.
Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer SPF20, £34, comes in 11 shades and has reached well nigh iconic status for its blend of skincare and makeup. It is hydrating, gives a hint of colour, evens out skin tone and blurs fine lines. You can build it up to increase the coverage a bit. There’s also an illuminating version, same price but only five shades.
