Beauty Bible Weekend Steal: John Bell & Croyden Epsom Salts and Absolute Aromas Goodnight Essential Blend

Here’s our cunning plan for bathtime bliss on a budget! Epsom salts, aka magnesium sulphate, are the bees knees for soothing and relaxing aching muscles. Our bodies and minds need magnesium – it’s known as Nature’s tranquilliser – but most people don't get enough. Interestingly, it’s best absorbed through the skin so lacing your bath with it is one of the most effective ways of getting a dose.

Add in a few drops of essential oils and you have a pretty perfect recipe for relaxing and sleeping like a baby. You could either use your favourite essential oil – lavender and/or chamomile are traditional essences for calming and soothing – or pick a blend such as Absolute Aromas Goodnight.

Now we know this isn’t the most glam packaging so our tip is to decant the Epsom salts into a decorative lidded jar or bowl.

Actually that makes a lovely present, especially if you add in a tablespoonful of pink Himalayan salt, and perhaps a few dried rose petals or lavender flowers.

Two last things: magnesium baths can help children relax, particularly those who have ADD/ADHD (attention deficit hyperactivity disorder). This came from a top researcher who had a child with ADD. And magnesium is also helpful for menopausal women with Restless Legs Syndrome.

You should get two to three baths from this packet of Epsom Salts and do soak for at least 20 minutes.

Sleep well!
