Beauty Bible Weekend Steal... Dr. Organic's greener bath and shower options

‘Ocean-bound plastic’ is a phrase that eco-beauty bunnies may be familiar with. But don’t beat yourself up if you don’t know what we’re talking about, because this is pretty new stuff, and has only really made it onto our own radar thanks to a packaging upgrade initiative from Dr. Organic, whose shampoos, conditioners and body washes are now packaged in the aforementioned ‘ocean-bound plastic’.

Plastic that’s dumped within 50km of an ocean coastline or major waterway usually presents specific environmental problems. It’s more likely to end up in water, where it starts to break down into polluting microplastics. And as it degrades, it becomes harder to recycle (and is considered less valuable). So, this is a particularly important material to source for packaging – and Dr. Organic say that by deploying this type of plastic, 41 tonnes of plastic will be prevented from entering the ocean.

What we always say with any eco initiative, though, is that while it’s all very noble, we’ve got to want to buy the products themselves. And we do! Dr. Organic has impressed us from the get-go with their user-friendly formulations, fragrances (we’re especially keen on Rose Otto and Aloe Vera), and the way this brand has progressively moved to become more and more sustainable, since we first got to know them, becoming COSMOS-certified, in most cases.

Very widely available, most particularly at Holland & Barrett (where you’ll find a very extensive range), and now online at Sephora, too, we’ve some particular favourites, below – great places to start if you don’t know the line-up.

Dr. Organic Rose Otto Shampoo. A gorgeously replenishing, gently sudsing shampoo with a rosetastic scent.

Dr. Organic Moroccan Argan Oil Restorative Hair Treatment Conditioner. A truly luscious and brilliantly-priced deep treatment, powered by oils of argan, castor seed and olive, as well as aloe vera and glycerine.

Dr. Organic Calendula Body Wash. As gentle as body washes get, this is fragrance-free and suitable for even the most sensitive, dry and irritated skins, with calming extracts of aloe vera, sunflower seed oil and ginger.

Even better? Check out the prices, below – because as you’ll see, they don’t cost the earth in ANY way, actually.
