Beauty Bible Weekend Steal: Burt’s Bees Res-Q Ointment

No matter how well you moisturise, flakes and itching aren’t uncommon at this time of year. Nothing to do with eczema or psoriasis; it just happens when skin’s barrier function is impaired, and natural moisture escapes easily from skin – a vicious complexion circle, actually, because then the moisture escapes even MORE easily – and so it goes on.

Here’s a fix to try, then: a properly barrier-boosting ointment from all-natural brand Burt’s Bees (whose whole range is also almost universally a brilliant steal, price-wise).

A key ingredient here is ‘cica’ – short for Centella Asiatica, a top skin-repairing botanical whose powers we first learned about decades ago from Dr. Daniel Maes, Estée Lauder’s amazing resident formulator. Soothing from the get-go (not least because of the lavender fragrance), this balmy ointment is based around olive, wheatgerm and sunflower oils, cocoa butter and extracts of alfalfa and rosemary leaves, plus pear and aloe vera.

Simply smooth Burt’s Bees Res-Q Ointment into affected areas for relief. And we suggest keeping it in the handbag or pocket, then smoothing into cheeks before a long, wintry walk, to guard against the effects of cold and wind.

And we do all love a winter walk, don’t we…?
