Scandinavisk Skog range
Right now, despite the boiling heat we’re experiencing in the UK (not that we’re complaining, really), we do find ourselves fantasising about the cool, tranquil peace of Scandinavia. The shaded forests, beautiful lakes and rocky coastline that beckons us towards a bracing dip. The seclusion.
Scandinavisk bottles all of this rather well, we think. (It’s a tongue-twister of a name, so just pretend you were going to say ‘Scandinavia’ and swap the ‘ia’ for ‘isk’. It took us a wee while.)
However you pronounce it, Scandinavisk has been around for seven years, sensitively taking steps along its journey towards ever greater sustainability – probably the biggest buzzword in beauty today, but right at the heart of what they do. They’re brilliantly transparent: everything is made in Denmark, and they’re clear about the percentages of natural, certified organic, fragrance ingredients and water inside. (And on the subject of water, they use local spring water (from a natural well, 130 metres deep.)
The new, very generous 450ml pump bottles (see above) and the 225ml tubes are now made from renewably sourced bioplastics. Any outer packaging is sourced from managed Swedish forests that are FSC-certified, using natural dyes. The candles, meanwhile, are based on non-GMO Swedish rapeseed that’s sustainably farmed. And so it goes on…
But which products, we’re sure you’re wondering, have pushed our buttons? Quite a few, actually. But our favourite is probably the duo featured here, in the SKOG range. (The names are reminiscent of IKEA’s – for obvious reasons – and ‘skog’ means forest, in Swedish/Norwegian.) Infused with the fragrances of pine needles and fir cones, woodland lily of the valley and birch sap, it really does evoke the feeling of stepping into the cool shade of a pine forest.
Reminding us to put Scandinavia on our post-Covid bucket list, as it does so. But for now? We’ll happily travel in our minds, with this.
