Santa Maria Novella Room Fragrance Diffusers

Florence's Santa Maria Novella pharmacy should be at the top of every beauty-hound's must-visit list: an incredible historic building, attached to a monastery, and a treasure trove of scented delights, with fragrances, hand-made unguents for every bit of face and body, the world's greatest pot pourri - actually, the ONLY great pot pourri we've ever found – and now, for the first time, scented diffusers, commemorating the 800th anniversary of the Farmacia, via a collection of new products under the . (Yes. Eight centuries.)

Via wooden sticks, these chic diffusers waft one of five scents, inspired by the continents: Africa (think sappy green notes, mango, white musk and eucalyptus); Asia (lily of the valley, jasmine, freesia, green and white teas, iris and guaiac wood); America (zingy with lime, peppermint, sweet mint, vanilla, caramel and cinnamon); Europa (bergamot, sweet orange, red wine, rose, violet and oak moss), and – last but not last – Oceania, breezy with ozonic notes, white flowers, musk and green tea.

They're luxury-priced but generously-sized and will last for aeons. We've a top tip to get the most out of your diffuser, though: position it not on a shelf or against a wall or on a mantel, but on a surface in the middle of a room – a table or a kitchen island – because it's the air circulating around it which (um, yes) diffuses the scent.

The conundrum here is simply which continent you'd like to be olfactorily transported to.

Via Florence, that is.

£80 each – buy here (and enjoy the animations, while you're shopping!)

PS You don't actually have to travel to Florence to enjoy Santa Maria Novella, actually: there are a few stockists in the UK (including the amazing Scriptum stationery store, in Oxford). Sniff them out, when you can. Your nose will thank you for it.
